Thaumatovalva spinai is een vlinder uit de familie van de bladrollers (Tortricidae). De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is, als Thaumatotibia spinai, voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 2010 door Józef Razowski & Pasquale Trematerra., 2010: Tortricidae (Lepidoptera) from Ethiopia. Journal of Entomological and Acarological Research (ser. II) 42: 47–79. Timm & Brown maakten de combinatie in het geslacht Thaumatovalva., 2014: A new genus of Grapholitini from Africa related to Thaumatotibia (Lepidoptera, Tortricidae). ZooKeys 438: 113-128.
